This is a partial copy of George Lamberts large WW1 painting held in the Australian War Memorial.
it shows the famous charge on Beersheba where the LightHorse leapt the Turkish Trenches. the horses had been three days without water and had smelt the water in the wells and once galloping nothing would have stopped them. The Turks famously did not lower their sights, which saved many Australian lives once they galloped under the guns. Original now sold due to changes in AWM licensing
Leonie Bell has a love of the natural world. Leonie grew up in the coastal bush country, owned horses for many years, and lived on orchard farms in the rich Hawkesbury area. Cattle horses and birds are an especial interest but the rich biology of life colour and light is an abiding interest. Another art interest revolves around the Australian Light Horse. Leonie is mostly self taught, but has drawn for most of her life. A wide range of mediums (pen & ink, pastel, acrylic & watercolour) allows Leonie to fully express her view of the natural world she feels at home with.
